The Regional Police Commander for Kigezi sub-region, Alex Wabwire, has urged the public, especially travelers from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, to strictly observe Ebola prevention guidelines to protect communities from the disease.
Wabwire made the remarks on Sunday during a thanksgiving service organized by supporters of Arsenal at St. Mark Kikungiri Church in Kabale Municipality, following the club’s first English Premier League title in over 22 years.
He warned that cross-border movement continues to heighten the risk of Ebola transmission in the region, urging residents to maintain hygiene, wash hands with soap, and avoid unnecessary physical contact such as handshakes in line with standard operating procedures.
The police commander also commended supporters for conducting peaceful celebrations and encouraged them to use sports gatherings to promote discipline and unity.
Arsenal supporters’ mobiliser in Kabale, Frank Mutaremwa, said football has evolved beyond entertainment, creating opportunities through talent development, business, and community engagement.
During the service, Ordinand Jonathan Patrick Yesu Ariiho called on Christians to embrace love, unity, and forgiveness, reminding worshippers that life on earth is temporary and urging peaceful coexistence regardless of differences.
After prayers, jubilant supporters held a convoy procession through Kabale town under police escort, later converging at Kabale Main Stadium for a friendly match between a Police team and Arsenal fans.
The event drew hundreds of supporters from across the Kigezi sub-region, who described it as a historic moment for Arsenal fans in the area.
